A guideline on downloading and installing programs from The Eagle's Realm ISP

Obviously first you find a program that you want to download.  If it is indicated what size the download is it will give you an idea as to how long it will take to download.

If you are going to do a number of downloads or download very large files we recommend you download and install StarDownloader.  This program breaks the download into several packets and downloads them at the same time and then recombines them.
A file download window will open offering you several options including canceling the download.

The two you will most likely choose is to "Open" or "Save" the file.

Selecting "Open" will download the file to a temporary folder and then proceed with the installation.  This sounds like the easy way, but if you need to reinstall the program at some time it may not be available.

So it is usually best to create a folder to put your downloads in.  You can create folders as outlined below.

There are two typical places to download files to.  Your Desk Top and My Documents.  "My Documents" is usually the default setting.

You do not have to download to folders, but it is more orderly and in the case of .zip downloads there may be more files associated with the program after unzipping.

To create a new folder for the Desk Top simply right click in an open area.  A drop down menu will appear and select "New Folder".  A new folder option will appear ready for you to type in a name for it.

To select where the download will be saved to read the next section.

To create a folder for downloads in My Documents with My Documents open go to "File" and then "New" and "Folder".  A new folder option will open for you to give it a name.  The default name is "New Folder" and added ones will be numbered like "New Folder 2".  It is better to give it a name you choose.

To determine in which folder the download is stored in note the top of the window.

You can navigate to the desired folder two ways.
One is to click the arrow at the right end of the Save in form field and select from the drop down file tree.
If your navigation is upward select the folder icon with the arrow on it.  Each click will take you up one level.  You can change your decision using either of these or the back arrow prior to starting the download.

Once the download is complete you can open the folder where you saved the download to and install it.  To start the installation simply click on the download name that is a .exe (executable).  Note in the enlarged picture at the left the .exe file for ScreenShoot-It! is located at the lower left.
.ZIP Downloads Downloading compressed files is no different than downloading uncompressed files except the file extension will be .zip instead of .exe.

However, you will need a Zip utility to un-compress the file before it can be installed from your download folder. (Some .zip files are self extracting)

We offer you 7-Zip on Free Software Page 4 or you can download ZipGenius at http://www.zipgenius.it/eng/index.php.  Both are excellent programs with ZipGenius being a little more intuitive to use.

After you have uncompressed a .zip file if there are .txt files included you should read them.  Simply click on the file and Notepad will open.
After reading them or if there are none look for the file extension .exe and click that.  That will start the installation even there are files with extensions you don't recognize.  The installation will include these other files as necessary.

The Eagle's Realm ISP recommends the King James Version of the Bible for sound and serious study.
Throughout history there was a concerted effort by generations of Jews and Christians to accurately preserve the text the KJV was translated from. We encourage you to research this topic.
Too often scattered fragments are considered more authentic simply because they are older.
