Configuring and Troubleshooting Email Clients on your Computer.

Click any image to enlarge.
Use "Back" on your browser to return here.
The first step in configuring your email client is to open the window to set up accounts.

In Outlook Express on the task bar select "Tools" and then on the drop down menu select "Accounts".

The window on the left opens.  Select "Add" to create an account or "Properties to edit an account.
The first tab on the "Properties" window that opens is "General".

On this window the first form field is used to name the account.  You can have multiple accounts set up and each will have a different name.

The 2nd & 3rd form fields simply personalize the account.

The 4th and 5th form fields are labeled. However, it is important to note that you cannot send mail with a domain different from Eagle's Realm.net.  This is a restriction imposed by all narrow band Internet providers.
The second Properties window tab is "Servers" and this is very important.

Enlarge the image at the left and you will see that the form field entry for both incoming and outgoing mail is "eaglesrealm.net".

Note that the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" must be unchecked.  The same is true for "My server requires authentication".

The "Incoming Mail Server" settings is your email account and password.

"Remember password" should be checked for automatic access each time.  If you want to prevent others from being able to access your mail leave this unchecked.  Creating another "Identity" in Outlook Express is a better alternative.
The "Advanced" tab window should be pre-configured by the email client because the default setting are usually applicable.  It is shown on the left so that you can confirm the settings.

If you use both EaglesRealm Web Mail and an email client on your computer you may want to check "Leave a copy of messages on server".  Otherwise once they are downloaded they are not available to the web mail.
Caution:  See "Too Much Mail" below.

Possible Problem Areas

Sending:

Wrong Domain: As noted above dialup users are universally prohibited from sending mail using domains not set up by your ISP.  This includes the Eagle's Realm ISP and there is nothing we can do about it.

Unsent Mail: If you have unset mail in queue that is configured wrong Outlook Express will not send any following mail until the unset mail is reconfigured or deleted.  Usually copying into a new "Compose" and deleting the original will resolve it.

Wrong ISP:  If you recently changed Internet providers there may vestiges of other dialers or settings that must be deleted or corrected.  This is particularly true in Windows 2000 and XP.  The "dynamic" aspects of these operating systems basically form "habits" based on your personal settings and computer activities.  Some must be corrected and others will be adjusted through use.

Receiving:

Must be online: In order to receive mail you must be connected to the Internet. If you have checked "Work Offline" under "File" of the mail client you must go online to download your emails.

User Name and Password: In order to access one or more email accounts the user names and passwords for each account must be correct in the "Properties" settings noted above.

Too Much Mail: If you have left too much mail on the server, particularly those with large file sizes such as images, you may not be able to receive additional mail.
This can happen if you are only using the web mail and fail to check your mail.
It can also happen if you have "Leave a copy of messages on server" checked in your computer email client configuration and then do not access the web mail to clear stored messages.
